Saul of Tarsus became a Believer of Jesus

Chapter 1.  The Lord talks to Saul
This story is taken from Acts 9:1-19
Saul was making threats against the believers of Jesus with every breath he took.  He was eager to destroy the believers of Jesus.  So Saul went to the High Priest and asked for letters that was made out to the synagogues in Damascus. Now a synagogue is a Jewish church.  These letters that Saul got from the High Priest asked for help from the synagogues in the arrest of any believer of Jesus that Saul found in Damascus.  Saul wanted to bring any believer of Jesus, men and women back to Jerusalem in chains.
As Saul was getting close to Damascus on his mission, a very bright light from heaven suddenly beamed down upon him!  Saul fell to the ground and he heard a voice from heaven saying to him, “Saul!  Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”   “Who are you sir?” Saul asked.   And the voice said, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting!  Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you are to do.”
The men with Saul stood there speechless, they were so surprise, for they heard the sound of someone’s voice, but they couldn’t see anyone.  As Saul got up off the ground, he found out that he was blind.  So the men with Saul led him by the hand to Damascus.  Saul was in Damascus blind for three days.  And all that time Saul went without food and water.
Now, there was a man who believed in Jesus, who lived in Damascus, his name was Ananias.  The Lord spoke to this man in a vision.  The Lord said, “Ananias!”  “Yes Lord!” the man answered.  Then the Lord said, “Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas.  When you get there, ask for Saul from Tarsus.  He is praying to me right now.  I have shown him a vision of a man named Ananias, who will visit him and lay his hands on him so that he can see again.”  “But Lord, I have heard about the terrible things this man, Saul, has done to the believers of Jesus in Jerusalem! And we hear that the leading priests have given Saul the power to arrest every believer of Jesus in Damascus,” said Ananias.
But the Lord said, “Go and do what I tell you.  For I have chosen Saul to take my message to the Gentile people, and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel.  And I will show him how much he must go through for me.”
So Ananias went and found Saul.  He laid his hands on him and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road to Damascus, has told me to come and help you so you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”  Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again.   Then Saul got up and he was baptized.

Chapter 2  Saul begins preaching about Jesus

This is taken from Acts 9:19-25

Saul is staying with the believers in Damascus for a few days.  Immediately Saul began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues.  Saul was telling the people that Jesus was indeed the Son of God.

All the people who heard Saul preach was surprised.  And they said, “Isn’t this the same man who persecuted Jesus’ followers in Jerusalem, causing them so much trouble.  We understand that he came here to arrest the believers of Jesus and take them in chains to the leading priests.”

Saul’s preaching became more and more powerful.  The Jewish people in Damascus became confused, as Saul tried to show them that Jesus is the Messiah.  After a while the Jewish leaders decided to kill Saul.  But Saul was told about the Jewish leaders plan.  Then one night Saul’s followers helped him get out of Damascus.  Saul got into a large basket and his followers let him down to the ground through an opening in the city wall.

Chapter 3   Saul in Jerusalem.

This is taken from Acts 9: 26-31

When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to meet with the believers there, but the believer where all afraid of him.   The believer though that Saul wasn’t a true believer that he was only pretending to be.  So Barnabas helped Saul by taking him to the apostles.  Barnabas told the apostles how Saul has seen the Lord on the way to Damascus.  Barnabas also told how bravely Saul had preached in the name of Jesus in Damascus.  Then the apostles believed that Saul was truly a believer of Jesus, and after that Saul moved about freely with the apostles in Jerusalem.

Saul preached boldly in the name of Jesus.  Saul was always arguing with the Jews who spoke Greek, and so they made plans to kill him.  When the believers heard about the Greek Jews plan they took Saul to Caesarea.  From there they sent Saul to the city of Tarsus, his hometown.

The church in Judea, Galilee, and Samaria now had a time of peace and kept on worshiping the Lord.  The church became stronger and it began to have more people coming to it.
