                            Father
Taken from John 14:1-14

Jesus said, “Don’t be worried!  Trust in God, and trust also in me.  In my Father’s house are many rooms, I wouldn’t tell you this, unless it was true.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.   When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.   And you know the way to where I am going.”

Jesus answered, “Philip don’t you yet know who I am?  After I have been among you for such a long time!  Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me “Show us the Father?”  Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say are not just my own words, but they are my Father’s who lives in me.  It is he who is doing His working through me.   Just believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.  Or at least believe because of the miracles you have seen me do.”

You will do even greater things than these, because I am going back to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.   I will do whatever you ask me to do.”

Lesson 2    Jesus Promise the Holy Spirit
Taken from John 14:15-26

If you love me, obey my commandments.  And I will ask the Father (God), and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you.  The Counselor here is the Holy Spirit.  But, if you look up the word counselor, you will find the meaning is: to warn or caution you to be on guard against possible danger and also will suggest a course of action.  The Holy Spirit will guide you if you will only listen to him.

Jesus said the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth.  The world at large cannot accept the Holy Spirit, because the world isn’t looking for him.  And also the world wouldn’t even know the Holy Spirit.  Why do you think the world wouldn’t know the Holy Spirit?  I think it’s because the world doesn’t believe in Jesus.  Jesus told the disciples that they knew the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit lived with them, and later on the Holy Spirit would live in them.   Do you know that the Holy Spirit also lives in believer today?  Well he does.  He’s that little voice that is inside you that tells you when you do something wrong.

Jesus also said, “The ones who obey my commandments are the ones who love me.  And because they love me, my Father will love them, and I will love them, and I will show myself to each one of them.  All those who love me will obey my teaching.  My Father will love them, and we will come to them and live with them.”  That means that the Holy Spirit will come and live inside of you as your counselor.
Then Jesus said, “Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey what I say.  But remember, my words are not my own, but they are my Father’s Words who sent me.”
Jesus was telling these things to his disciples before it happen.  So that when it did happen they would believe.
Then Jesus said, “When the Father sends the Counselor in my name, and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit, he will teach you everything and he will remind you of everything that I have said to you.

Lesson 3    The Holy Spirit Comes
Taken from Acts 2:1-15
Tongues of fire
On the day of Pentecost, seven weeks after Jesus was raised from the dead the believers were meeting together in one place.  Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm in the skies above them, and it filled the house where they were meeting.  Then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and rested on each of them.  And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues, which is different languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them the power to do so.

Religious Jews from many countries were living in Jerusalem at that time.  When they heard this sound, they came running to see what it was all about, and they were surprise to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.

They were excited and amazed.  “How can this be?” they exclaimed!  “These people are all from Galilee, and yet we hear them speaking the languages of the countries where we were born!  We all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!”  They stood there greatly surprise.   “What can this mean?” they asked each other.  But there were others in the crowd who was making fun of the people.  “They are drunk, that all!” they said.

Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and he shouted to the crowd, “Fellow Jews, and the people who live in Jerusalem!  Listen carefully, what I am saying.   Make no mistake about this.  Some of you are saying these people are drunk.  But, that isn’t true!  For it is much too early for that.  People don’t get drunk by nine o’clock in the morning.

Lesson 4     Peter Preached
Taken from Acts 2:22-36
Peter started speaking at the end of lesson 3.  In this lesson he is still speaking.

“People of Israel, listen!  God proved that He sent Jesus who was from Nazareth to you by having Him work miracles, wonders, and signs.  But you followed God’s plan that He had arranged a long time ago.   And with the help of unlawful people, you nailed Jesus to the cross and killed Him.  But, God has more power than death, so God freed Jesus from death and raised Him back to life again.

Long ago King David said this about Jesus:  I know the Lord is always with me.  I will not be afraid, for He is right beside me.  No wonder my heart is filled with joy, and my mouth shouts His praises!  I live in hope.  For I know, the Lord will not leave my soul among the dead, or allow His Holy One to rot in the grave.  He has shown me the way to life, and He will give me wonderful joy in His presence.

Just think about this!  King David wasn’t talking about his self, when he said these things that I just told you.  For King David died and was buried, and his tomb is still here on earth.  But, King David was a prophet, and he knew God had made a promised and He would not break it.  For God promised that one of King David own descendants would sit on his throne as the Messiah.  The word descendants mean a person children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on down the line of children.   King David was looking into the future and he told of the Messiah being raised from the dead.  He was saying that the Messiah, who is Jesus, would not be left among the dead.

Peter is still talking.  This prophecy was speaking of Jesus, whom God raised from the dead, and we all are witnesses of this.  Now He sits on the throne of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand.  And the father, as he had promised, gave Him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you have seen and heard today.  For King David never went up into heaven while he was alive.  So he wasn’t talking about himself when he said:  The Lord told my Lord, to sit in honor at His right hand until He had humbled Jesus enemies making them a footstool under His feet.  The word humbled means to bring low.

So let it be clearly known by everyone in Israel that God has made Jesus whom you put to death on a cross, to be both Lord and Messiah!

Lesson 5    People Believed in Jesus, and
                     The Church was begun
Taken from Acts 2:37-47
When Peter said, “Let it be clearly known by everyone in Israel that God has made Jesus whom you put to death on a cross, to be both Lord and Messiah!”  He made the people realize that they were guilty of nailing the Messiah to a cross.  And they become very upset.  So they said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers what should we do?”

Then Peter said, each of you must turn from your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so your sins will be forgiven.  Then you will be given the gift of the Holy Spirit.  This promise is to you and to your children, and even to the Gentiles, all who have been called by the Lord our God.  Then Peter kept on preaching for a long time, strongly pleading with all his listeners.  Peter said, “I beg you to save your selves from what will happen to all these evil people.”

Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church, about 3,000 people in all.  The new believer joined together with the other believers and they faithfully followed the apostles’ teaching, and had fellowship, and they took part in the Lord’s Supper and in praying.

Everyone was amazed by the many miracles and wonders that the apostles did. And all the believers met together often and shared everything they had.  They sold their things and gave the money to those who needed it.  They worshiped together at the Temple each day, and met in homes for the Lord’s Supper and they shared their food with great joy, all the while praising God and everyone liked them.  And each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved.
